I like to go for a jog (we’re not talking Mo Farah pace here either), as I find that, apart from being a good form of much-needed exercise, it is also a great opportunity to think things through.
As we embarked upon what will be a week of significant announcements in terms of the latter stages of easing lockdown and the reopening of the remaining business sectors, I thought that it would be a good idea to return to my old running route yesterday and see how it felt, rather than having to go along the one which lockdown dictated I needed to use from home… It felt great, not just because of the weather, but because I was back to doing something in surroundings which were so familiar to me and which I took for granted before.
Never did I imagine that a little thing like that would be so therapeutic, especially after such a difficult few months, as it has been for so many families. I’d recommend trying it to everyone, not the jogging, just revisiting one or two of the places you used to go to before lockdown (pubs and cinemas excluded for now!), never will I take normal for granted again.
After a few quiet days within investment markets, as they endeavour to digest the news of further virus outbreaks in certain countries and also the ‘yes or no’ nature of whether the recent US/China trade deal is still up and running or not, we are still creeping upwards in general terms in most sectors, property and cash being the two that are languishing, although this is normally the case during a downturn, with the likes of property needing more time to recover as job security and business/consumer confidence are very much pre-requisite’s for this sector.
I have attached a chart which shows how things are moving along in the various investment sectors around the globe and as you can see from the first column of figures (the 1 month performance), it is encouraging, even if we are not out of the woods by any stretch as yet.
Enjoy what looks like being the hottest day of the year and if you’re not working today, have a trip out to somewhere which is/was special to you, I can recommend it!
